Project Description

The Roppe Bridge is currently under construction in Flå municipality, Viken county. Commissioned by Flå kommune and designed by the engineering firm Degree of Freedom, the new structure will replace the aging suspension bridge, which no longer meets modern standards for load-bearing capacity or road safety. The new bridge will connect Hallingdalsveien with Roppevegen across the Hallingdalselva River, enhancing local connectivity and traffic safety.

The project features a 90-meter single-span steel bow-string arch bridge with V-shaped hangers forming a robust, truss-like structure. The arches have circular cross-sections with a slight inward inclination, giving the bridge a modern and elegant appearance that blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. The superstructure is fabricated off-site in large steel segments for efficient transportation, painted to ensure corrosion protection. All connections use prestressed bolts, allowing for assembly tolerances and facilitating on-site installation. The deck consists of prefabricated slabs designed for quick and efficient placement.

Construction began in January 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025. As of December 2024, the reinforced concrete foundations and substructure have been completed, including temporary foundations for the installation phase. The new bridge is being built adjacent to the existing crossing to allow uninterrupted traffic during construction. Once operational, the old bridge will be dismantled.

Special attention has been given to environmental considerations, minimizing the ecological footprint during both construction and the long-term life cycle of the bridge.
