The overall project consists of a new double-track railway (13.6km) with a train station adjacent to the urban area of Skoppum. It includes rock tunnels, 1 cut and cover concrete tunnel, 17km of roads (permanent and temporary), 3 bridges and 1 train station. The entire area of the project is constituted mainly of clay and the new alignment has been designed for a maximum speed of 250km/h and will cut 5 minutes from journey times between Drammen and Eidanger.
Degree of Freedom, subconsultant of Systra SWS, provided the detailed design of three new bridges of the new railway line Vestfoldbanen including:
– Bridge K960: a 77 meters long and 12 meters wide railway bridge that includes three spans, two of them with a length of 24 meters and another with a length of 29 meters. The bridge consists of a concrete post-tensioned deck made with two girders with a height of 2m, bearing onto concrete piers and abutments. The foundations are made with footings directly founded onto rock.
– Bridge K940: a 50 meters long and 30 meters wide railway bridge that includes three spans, two of them with a length of 15 meters and another with a length of 20 meters. The bridge consists of a 600mm thick concrete slab and five extradosed girders with a height of 1,8m, bearing onto concrete piers and abutments. The foundations are made with footings directly founded onto rock.
– Bridge K955: a 110 meters long and 5 meters wide pedestrian bridge. It includes six spans, four spans of 20 meters and two spans of 15 meters. The bridge consists of a concrete girder with a height of 0,85m, bearing onto concrete piers and abutments. The foundations are made with pilecaps with eight steel core piles reaching rock surface.
