Project Description

Degree of Freedom designed, in collaboration with Multiconsult the new “Gateway of Norway”. The bridge clearly tells the travellers on the E18 highway between Stockholm and Oslo that they have reached Norway.

The bridge is a 75 m long painted box girder bridge with an asymmetrical cross-section and a 53m high pylon. The pylon is supported in three directions by stay cables, which allow a slender design. The pylon has a circular cross-section with a varying optimized diameter (max. ø2 m). In plan view the bridge deck has a 60 m horizontal radius and is supported on the outer edge by stay cables which transfer the forces to the pylon. From the inner to the outer edge the bridge carries two vehicle lanes and a pedestrian/cycle path.
