DEGREE OF FREEDOM was contracted by Martinez Segovia S.A. to develop part of the design project of Yamama Cement Plant in Saudi Arabia. The project consists of the design of several steel structures for the material transportation with a total weight around 580 TN. The structures were modelled in BIM, with the software Tekla, and clashes with other disciplines were verified. The structures designed are:
Transport to transference tower. This is the bearing structure of the conveyor which transports the material to the transference tower. This structure starts at ground level, supporting directly on floor beams, and gets up to z=+20.749 m at the tower. It has a total of 11 spans with different lengths. The supports are steel palisades.
Transfer tower. This is the structure of the transfer station where the previous belt conveyor arrives, and the material is transferred to the other belt conveyor. This structure is a 24 meters high tower with a rectangle shape plan. It has four columns, and an external and smaller structure to raise each platform, formed by two columns and the stairs, that rely cantilevered on that columns.
Additive conveying to cement mills is the support of a conveyor which transports the material to the tower where the cement mills are. It starts at the transfer tower, has three spans, with a total height difference of 16.4 m.
In addition, the design of more than 250 bolted steel connections from 4 buildings was carried out. The connections were bolted connections and included all steel beams, columns and bracings of the building. Each building had between 25 and 140 types of connections.
