DOF Engineers participated on the team of the architectural and urban planning competition to  design a footbridge and an underpass crossing the railway tracks at Jessheim station, including the planning of the affected urban area. DOF Engineers provided the engineering expertise during the winter of 2014 to make possible the special constructions designed for the footbridge and underpass.

The project will be one of the key elements to the development of the Jessheim city center, one of the fastest growing cities in Norway.

The footbridge resembles the old railway crossings, but designed with a modern architectonical language. The construction will include two stairs and two elevators at both sides of the tracks in order to guarantee the universal access for all the users, without making a long crossing.  The elevated pass has a box shape with pitched roof, that is formed with longitudinal steel sections placed at the box corners and a large number of transverse steel elements placed around the box, that connect the longitudinal chords and provides stiffness to the system. Special treated wood elements are also used in combination with the steel structure.

The underpass is a special concrete culvert with large dimensions that permits a universal access under the railway for all the users. We proposed a special construction method that guarantees minimum disturbances to the railway traffic during the construction.
