The project, developed by Multiconsult from the conceptual stage to construction, is the biggest hydropower project in Sørlandet in the last 20 years. The project is located in Sarvsjuvet outside Bykle (Norway).



The dam is 50 meter height and 150 meter wide (with a concrete volume of approx. 19500 meter cube), and can take up to 3.5 million cubic meter of water. The expected energy production is 175 GWh, with a project overall cost of around 900 million nok (107 million euro).



In order to maintain and access the dam a curved top bridge was needed; DOF has been asked to collaborate with Multiconsult in the detailed design of this bridge.




The concrete bridge is curved (with a radius of 80 meters), around 142 meter long and with No12 equals span of 12 meters; the bridge deck is 6 meter wide and is simply supported (with bearings) on No 11 radial columns directly connected to the dam top beam.



The bridge FEM analysis and the detailed design have been performed with SOFISTIK software package.




All the drawings have been exported from a general 3d BIM model  done in Tekla structures.



Special attention and complex FEM analysis has been required in order to ensure that no problems will arise from differential movements between the dam (subject to temperature, water pressure, shrinkage, creep) and the bridge.



The construction of the project is started in 2012 and has been completed in 2014.
