Degree of Freedom is an international civil and structural engineering practice with offices in Oslo, Valencia and Athens. We design bridges, buildings and special structures, in timber, steel, and concrete. We are architecture oriented and innovative.

The project for the new Redemptoris Mater parish complex of Cinisi (PA) was conceived as a little campus of religious faith. The strong spiritual impact of the complex arises from its dialog with its historical, artistic, and social context, and from the holistic deployment of architecture with fundamental building practices for people of today – as it does in the synergy between music and biology, between agriculture and sociology, and between psychology and religion.
From a structural point of view the church is built with fibre-reinforced “rammed” concrete, layered in with different natural colours; the vault are extremely thin form-optimised structures that are also the distinguished key element of the project. The entire structure lays in a seismic are, and therefore preliminary evaluation of the earthquake loads has been performed.
